GERMANY: Weimar Republic, AR medal (17.73g), 1924-D, as Kienast-321, 33mm, First Flight of the Airship USS Los Angeles, silver medal by Karl Goetz, DEUTSCHE TATKRAFT, male figure with loincloth and long-handled hammer, beside him owl and eagle flying overhead, flight route marked on globe and the flight time indicated to left // ERINNER UNG AN Z R III OZEAN FAHRT, Zeppelin over caraval of Columbus, perhaps a private contemporary crude imitation of the usual struck medal, interesting, About Unc. The USS Los Angeles was a rigid airship, designated ZR-3, which was built in 1923-1924 by the Zeppelin company in Friedrichshafen, Germany, as war reparation. It was delivered to the United States Navy on 12 October 1924 under the command of Hugo Eckener. She was decommissioned in 1932.
