(t) CHINA. Silver 50 Cents Pattern, Year 3 (1911). Tientsin Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Gold Shield.
L&M-39; K-228; KM-Y-30; WS-0047; Wenchao-pg. 138 #121 (rarity three stars). VERY RARE. Like many of the 1911 pattern issues, this proposed design was never adopted for mass production due to the outbreak of the Xinhai revolution ending two thousand years of imperial rule in China. Instantly recognizable as a very special coin, the care with which it was prepared and the resulting product are outstanding. The finely engraved and intricate design features of the dragon have such a sharp and deep strike, that the beast has taken on a three dimensional appearance. With an incuse swirl fireball, the dragon looks as if he is poised to leap right off the surface of the coin! A very pleasing to the eye example with much visual appeal and desirability displaying rich old mottled cabinet patina with plenty of luster flash, clearly an example which sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed.
