THESSALY. Trikka. Circa 440-400 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.42 g, 9 h), struck under the magistrate, Euph.... EY Youthful male head to left. Rev. ΤΡ - ΙΚ-K Forepart of horse to left; all within shallow incuse square. Seemingly unpublished. An exciting new type in Trikka's scarce series of hemiobols. Well-struck and of particularly fine quality. Porous as usual, otherwise, extremely fine.
The "EY" inscription does not appear on any other hemiobol of Trikka. Its presence, nevertheless, has been recorded on other denominations of Trikka, like BCD II 767 (hemidrachms) and 778.4, 779.4 (obols) and indicates that the letters EY on this coin certainly do not identify the head on the coin as a portrait, but are simply a magistrate's initials.
