ISLANDS OFF CARIA, Karpathos. Poseidion. Circa 500-490/480 BC. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 13.83 g). Two large dolphins leaping in opposing directions: the upper one to right and the lower to left; below the lower dolphin, small dolphin leaping to right; all within a square, dotted border. Rev. Two parallel incuse rectangles with irregular fields divided by a three-part horizontal band. Asyut 689-692. BMC 3. Boston 2010. HGC 6, 1350. Stephanaki, Carpathos, 52-54 (D14/R17). Rare; clear, lightly toned and probably from the final issue, as recorded by Stephanaki. Minor test cut on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
