Julius Caesar, April 44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18.5 mm, 3.83 g, 6 h), struck by the moneyer C. Cossutius Maridianus, Rome. CAESAR / PARENS PATRIAE Wreathed and veiled head of Caesar to right; before, lituus, behind, apex. Rev. C.COSSVTIVS and MARIDIANVS arranged in the form of a cross with A-A-A-F F in the angles. The letters on the reverse, AAAFF, are the abbreviations standing for the position of the moneyer Cossutius Maridianus: he was a quattuorvir aere argento auro flando feriundo, one of the board of four in charge of striking coins in copper, silver and gold.
