LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 334-300 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.43 g, 12 h), from the Kleudorus Group. Head of Athena to left, wearing an Attic helmet adorned with a griffin; behind her neck, monogram of ΚΛΕΥ. Rev. YEΛΗΤΩΝ Lion walking to left with his right foreleg raised; above, Θ; below, monogram of ΚΛΕΥ. HN III 1290. Pozzi 250 (this coin). SNG ANS 1316. SNG Ashmolean 1236. SNG Lloyd 522. Williams 306e (this coin). Very attractively toned and of lovely style. Some minor die rust, otherwise, about extremely fine.
