BRUTTIUM. Kroton. Circa 530-500 BC. Stater (Silver, 28 mm, 8.86 g, 12 h). ϘΡΟ Tripod, with legs ending in lion's paws, and with three handles and snakes rising from the bowl, on dotted exergual line; cable border. Rev. Same type, but incuse; rayed border. HN III 2075. Jameson 1879 (this coin). SNG ANS 234. A very attractive, nicely toned example of great beauty. Minor die fault in the reverse field to right, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the collection of the Rockefeller University and that of Dr. Alfred E. Mirsky (originally acquired prior to the 1950s), Gemini VII, 6 January 2011, 65 (but there misidentified as being HN III 2085 with both a crab and the ethnic on the reverse, neither of which, quite clearly, can be seen on this coin!), from the Jameson Collection and from the Tarentum find of 1911.
