THRACE. Abdera. Circa 336-311 BC. Stater (Silver, 23.5 mm, 10.49 g, 7 h), struck under the magistrate Hipponax. ΑΒΔΗ / ΡΙΤΕΩΝ Griffin lying to left. Rev. ΕΠΙ ΙΠΠΟ - ΝΑΚΤΟΣ Laureate head of Apollo to right; below, scallop shell. AMNG 153. 11 (this coin). CN 126-35 (obverse 2 / her illustrations are too poor to enable the reverse die to be confidently identified). May 543. Very attractively toned and very well-struck, a lovely piece with an excellent pedigree. Extremely fine.
