The coinage of al-Muntasir is among the rarest in the Abbasid series. He joined in the conspiracy to murder his father, al-Mutawakkil, and succeeded to the throne at the end of the year AH 247, when he was twenty-five years old, but reigned for only six months before dying a natural death.
