Flavio Chigi was appointed Cardinal Legate of Avignon in 1657 by his uncle Pope Alexander VII, and during his tenure luigini were struck in the name of the Pontiff, in the name of both Alexander VII and Chigi, and in the name of the Cardinal alone such as the present piece.
