Attica, Athens AR New Style Tetradrachm. Apellikon, Gorgias, and Argios, magistrates. Struck circa 88/7 BC. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing necklace, pendant earring, and triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with the protomes of four horses above the visor, a Pegasos in flight to right above the raised earpiece, and a curvilinear ornament on the bowl / Owl standing to right, head facing, on amphora; A-ӨE above ΑΠ-ΕΛ-ΛΙ-ΚΩΝ, ΓΟΡ-ΓΙ-ΑΣ and [ΑΡ]ΓΙ[ΟΣ] (magistrates' names) across fields, griffin springing to right in right field, Λ on amphora, [ΔΑ] below; all within wreath. Thompson 1140c; Heritage 3037, lot 30011 (same dies); HGC 4, 1602. 16.41g, 31mm, 12h.

Good Very Fine; early state die-break to rev., attractive light cabinet tone with golden iridescent highlights.
