After Mieszko II's death in 1034, a series of revolts and an anti-Christian reaction occurred. In 1037–38 Miecław took advantage of the situation and proclaimed himself duke of an independent Mazovia. Fighting with duke Casimir I the Restorer, Miecław allied with the pagan Pomeranians and Yotvingians. Miecław died in 1047 in the battle he fought with Casimir and the Kievian prince Yaroslav the Wise. This rare coin is only known from finds in Stryjewo Wielkie and Żuków near Płock. Kvalitet 1 (F)
