Scottish Coins from Various Properties
James III, Crux Pellit coinage, series III, 'Threepenny Penny', possibly a European imitation, orb with rosette in centre, tilts upwards and to left, plain cusps and spandrels, 1.12g (cf. Anderson BNJ 76, fig. 4; S –). Good fine £80-£100

This coin appears to have an unusual obverse legend, reading en[-]ibel from 6 to 12 o'clock. Anderson, in his discussion of Crux Pellit imitations, lists no legends that match that seen on this coin. Stylistically, it is similar to Anderson's fig. 4, a 'sit nomen' imitation with its thick bands across the orb and a lack of ornamentation on the reverse, indicating that it is a related issue but with a previously unrecorded legend
