To be sold on behalf of several animal charities
Hooker was Charles Darwin's closest friend and served as Director of the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew for twenty years. He was presented with the medal in gold for his study of Indian flora. Bowcher's portrait was used again on a Wedgwood plaquette and on Hooker's memorial in Westminster Abbey.
