To be sold on behalf of several animal charities
James Grant Brandon-Thomas was the son of Walter Brandon-Thomas, author and actor, famous for the play "Charley's Aunt". He went up to University College, Oxford and on the outbreak of the war joined 2nd Battalion, Innskilling Fusiliers, going to France in September 1914, and was gazetted into the Regular Army. It was during a bayonet charge at Messines on 31st October 1914, that Brandon-Thomas was severely injured. He later died at No 7 British Red Cross Hospital (Allied Forces Hospital) in the Hotel Christol, Boulogne on 17th November 1914. His body was returned to England and he is buried in the Brompton Cemetery near to his father.
