Amaranta Orsini was the daughter of Marzio Orsini, Signore di Bomarzo and Porzia Vitelli. She became a nun and, in 1599, entered the Convent of Sant'Ambrogio alla Massima in Rome. Her youthful appearance on the medal suggests it dates from around that time. The Convent is better remembered today for the scandal there that took place in the mid-19th century.
