Gaspare Borgia was appointed Bishop of Segorbe-Albarracin on 2 September 1530 and, twenty years later, attended the Council of Trent in 1551-1552, from which time the medal is believed to date. Segorbe is in the coastal province of Castelló, near to Valencia, where Gaspare Borgia was both born and died.
