It was Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, who established the Dexter-Kerry herd in 1887, with imported cattle from Ireland. His first Dexter bull was Moonlighter and this is probably the animal modelled for the King by Fabergé. The Dexter herd supplied most of the milk to the Sandringham estate. George V continued his father's work and was also Patron of the Smithfield Club. The survival of Kerry cattle today is very much under threat.
