British Historical Medals, Kaiser Wilhelm II and the Empress Augusta, visit to London, copper medal, 1891, for the Corporation of the City of London, by Elkington & Co, conjoined busts of Wilhelm and Augusta r., rev. Londinia indicating shipping on the Thames to a figure of Prussia, St Paul's behind, 80mm. (BHM.3412; Eimer 1768), choice, virtually mint state
Kaiser Wilhelm II was Queen Victoria's eldest grandchild, the son of her eldest daughter. Although Victoria had always been fond of him as a child, after his accession to the throne she found him "hot-headed, conceited, and wrongheaded", and his unstable and vain behaviour was a contributing factor to the outbreak of World War I.
