John Le Gallais was a goldsmith, jeweller, watch and clockmaker of Broad Street, St Helier, Jersey. Initially he was in partnership with Thomas de Gruchy, but in 1846, the year of the visit, he acquired the whole business on de Gruchy's death. The Jerripedia website, in their "Biographies of silver makers", records that "his best-known product is a medallion struck to commemorate the royal visit of 1846".
