Ex David Vice, Heritage Auction 3039 (10 January 2016), lot 37025; previously ex H. W. L. Evans [of the Royal Mint, London].

Herbert Walter Lloyd Evans, CVO, OBE (1877-1956) entered the Mint on 1 December 1900 as a Clerk in the Operative Department. On 1 January 1911 he was promoted to be one of the Assistant Superintendents, on 1 August 1924 he became Deputy Superintendent, and on 16 July 1926 he succeeded William John Hocking CVO, CBE (1864–1953) as Superintendent. He retired on 31 March 1939. In 1991, a small number of coins was acquired from Evan's family by A. H. Baldwin & Sons and this is presumed to be one of them [our thanks to Dr Kevin Clancy FSA, Director, Royal Mint Museum for this information].
