China People's Bank of China 5000 Yuan 1951 Pick 857Ba S/M#C282 PMG Very Fine 25. As the People's Republic influenced increased control at the northern frontier, banknotes were necessary for the remote villages there. This 5000 Yuan is one of a few denominations created expressly for the Outer Provinces of Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang. Notice the Mongolian and Uyghur text on the back of this note. We have offered this iconic design only once previously, a PCGS Good 4, which netted $55,812 in 2014. This example, despite being previously mounted and with associated repairs, is vastly superior to the previous note which sold in 2014. Only five examples appear to have sold publicly in major auctions in the past decade which confirms the rarity of this type.
