Hong Kong Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China 5 Dollars 1.2.1921 Pick 41 KNB21 PMG Very Fine 25 Net. This rarely seen date is missing from most relevant collections. In fact, we have not offered it in the past. Interestingly, this banknote has lead an eventful life, which included some nefarious activities in the 1920s and 1930s. After issue, this note fell into the hands of skilled craftsmen who were able to alter the appearance of this note to "raise" it to a higher denomination. This note was able to be passed off, and none were the wiser at the time. Decades after this type had been retired, collectors or traders noticed the foul play, and a second set of skilled craftsmen restored the note to its original state; removing the alterations that raised the note. Nevertheless, despite the various cosmetic work, only the most microscopic traces remain. Good paper, clean margins, and bright colors remain.
