Hong Kong Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp. 50 Dollars 1.1.1934 Pick 175d KNB64b-c "Duress Note" PMG About Uncirculated 53 EPQ. During the 1930s, Bradbury, Wilkinson & Company printed large denomination banknotes for Hong Kong with a printed signature at right and a blank space at left. These notes were hand-signed by a Chief Accountant as needed, and subsequently issued. When the Japanese invaded Hong Kong, their army took hostage bank executives at HSBC and forced them to hand-sign banknotes, under "Duress." This example fits in the known serial run range for notes issued by the Japanese, and it is one of the finest extant. Totally original paper, bright color schemes, and bold fountain pen ink are seen. Worthy of consideration, especially considering the historical aspects of this note coupled with its amazing, original quality. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/hong-kong-hongkong-and-shanghai-banking-corp-50-dollars-111934-pick-175d-knb64b-c-duress-note-pmg-about-uncircu/a/4026-28205.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4026 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
