Hong Kong Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp. 500 Dollars 1.7.1937 Pick UNL KNB71b-c "Duress Note" PMG Very Fine 30 Net. An underrated, rarely seen date is seen on this long-running 500 Dollars issued by HSBC. However, serial numbers C126,001 to C300,000, from notes dated 1936 and 1937 were removed from the HSBC vault by Japanese occupiers and forced into circulation. Bank executives signed the notes under duress, hence their name today. While the 50 and 100 Dollars are occasionally seen, the 500 is amazingly rare, and it is not even recognized in the Standard Catalog. All details on this example remain quite good despite the note's large size and age. PMG mentions "Restoration" on the back of the third party holder. Nevertheless, this is a rarely seen banknote, missing from many collections. We have only offered a $500 Duress Note note twice previously. Do not miss this important opportunity to acquire a rare and historic banknote. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/hong-kong-hongkong-and-shanghai-banking-corp-500-dollars-171937-pick-unl-knb71b-c-duress-note-pmg-very-fine-30/a/4026-28213.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4026 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
