Indonesia Irian Barat, Bank Indonesia 5 Rupiah 1960 (ND 1963) Pick R3 PCGS Gem UNC 66PPQ. As Indonesia increased its territory after Dutch withdrawal in 1949, specialized notes were needed to ease the transition from colonial currency to the nationalized Rupiah. In 1963, the old Netherlands New Guinea Gulden was replaced by this new Iran Barat Rupiah at par. As such, this regional currency was substantially more valuable than the Indonesian Rupiah. To lessen the confusion, the nationally issued Rupiah was not issued in Irian Barat until 1971.
