Tu Duc 5 Tien ND (1848-1883) MS63 NGC, KM456.1 var. (slightly different dragon), Schr-349.2, S&H-4.7.1.2 var. (same). 18.52gm. By all measures a standout entry within this beautiful and conditionally sensitive series, and one which easily seems to press the upper bounds of its choice designation--the fields are lustrous and studded with die polish, while the features show not the least weakness or rub, and a light cabinet patina colors the surfaces. For reference, the last example of the type we offered, an MS64, brought $12,000 in our December 2018 Hong Kong sale, and this piece very much matches, if not exceeds, its visual appeal and overall preservation.
