Hsüan-t'ung silver Pattern Dollar ND (1910) MS64 NGC, Tientsin mint, Kann-219, L&M-24, WS-0036, Wenchao-98 (rarity 2 stars), Chang Foundation-32. Simply enthralling, and perhaps one of the most attractive dragon designs produced during Hsüan-t'ung's brief reign, this incredible pattern dollar is certainly set to stun. One of four denominations produced by the central mint in this year in compliance with the currency regulations promulgated by the Board of Revenue, though the 1/2 Dollar was the only that was actually released for circulation, the dollar is likely the most iconic entry in the series, its large flan allowing the beauty of the design to be expressed to its fullest. Toned to a darker dove-gray, the fields pair nicely with the intricate winding figure of the central dragon, whose scales catch the light to produce a nearly frosty appearance. The surfaces themselves are fully watery, producing an overall specimen or Prooflike quality. Very near to the peak of the certified population, and notoriously difficult to procure as such, the piece is sure to elicit fierce bidding amongst serious collectors.
