UNCERTAIN TRIBES. Uniface Plaquette (Bronze, 44 mm, 5.89 g), circa 4th-7th century (?). ÞX-HM Bald-headed facing half-length male figure, holding both hands in front of bare chest. Rev. Incuse of obverse. Attractive earthen highlights. Minor abrasions on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
The date we have assigned to this plaquette is uncertain, as is its origin, but the crude style makes us believe it is early medieval (perhaps Germanic?) rather than late Byzantine. The obverse shows an unidentified figure with an elongated skull and apparently only three fingers on each hand.
