ISLAMIC, Time of the Rashidun. Pseudo-Byzantine types. Fals (Bronze, 26 mm, 4.16 g, 12 h), imitating a EN T૪TO NIKA follis of Constans II, uncertain mint, circa AH 19-39 = AD 641-660. Imperial figure standing facing, wearing crown surmounted by cross, holding long cross in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left; around, an imitative legend in Latin. Rev. Large m in center flanked by A/N and X/Є; above, cross; below, ΓΗΙυl; in upper field to right, countermark (Goodwin and Schulze, Countermarking, type 1). T. Goodwin: A Puzzling Arab-Byzantine Coin, in: Numismatic Circular (Dec. 1996), p. 442 (same dies). Extremely rare. Minor deposits, otherwise, very fine.

This very interesting type is the only issue in the Arab-Byzantine series with a legend in Latin and a blundered THEYP (Theopolis).
