INDIA, Medieval. Malwa. Gadhaiya (Billon, 14 mm, 4.22 g), circa 13th century. Highly stylized Sasanian head to right. Rev. Stylized Sasanian fire altar with the Devangari 'OM' within. Apparently unpublished with 'OM'. Nicely toned. Very fine.
From a collection of coins from Central Asia.
This apparently unrecorded type carries the sacred Hindu mantra 'OM' on the reverse. It is similar to the Omkara type (cf. Deyell 172) and may have been a temple issue.
