The Agacha Janapada was a post-Mauryan tribal republic in the eastern Punjab, with its capital situated on the ancient site of Agrodaka (modern-day Agroha). The name of this city was likely Aggalapura. It is mentioned in the Vinayapitaka as lying on the great trade route that connected the Ganges valley with Taxila. This Janapada was the precursor of the prominent Agrawal merchant clan of northern India.
