50 pence: Fourth crowned portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara; ELIZABETH·II·D·G REG·F·D·1998. Design by Ian Rank-Broadley / The reverse shows a celebratory pattern of twelve stars representing the 12 members of the Union, with the dates 1973 and 1998. This coin commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union, and also its six-month Presidency of the Council of Ministers in the first half of the year. Design by John Mills. Edge plain.
