This extremely rare counter mark was applied just after 196 B.C. to show the liberation of Chalkis from the Macedonians by Flaminus. The facing head of Hera is a common theme on the coinage of Chalkis, confirming the origin of the counter mark. Only one other sold in the last 20 years; see Numismatik Lanz München - Auction 111, 25 Nov 2002, Lot 232, with lower quality counter mark.
