Gordian III Æ 19mm of Nicaea, Bithynia. AD 238-244. M ANT ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC AVΓ, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust to right, seen from the front / NIKAIEΩN, four legionary standards; the center two topped with capricorns, the outer two, topped with crowns. RPC VII.2 Online Unassigned ID 19863; Rec Gen 715; BMC 122. 2.99g, 19mm, 6h.

Very Fine. A very interesting reverse legend in the exergue: the E is backwards, Ω is correct, and the N is on its side. Possibly barbarous but the rest of the style looks official.

From the collection of Z.P., Austria.
