SICILY, Syracuse. Second Democracy. 466-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 17.27 g, 8h). Struck circa 440-430 BC. Charioteer driving quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses; in exergue, ketos right / Head of Arethousa right, hair gathered in chignon at back and held in broad band; four dolphins around. Boehringer Series XVIIa, 631 (V319/R434); HGC 2, 1316. Toned, obverse a little off center, a few light scratches and marks. VF. A pleasing example of this scarce transitional type.
