Moneyer issues of Imperatorial Rome. L. Mussidius Longus. 42 BC. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.86 g, 3h). Rome mint. Diademed and veiled head of Concordia right; crescent below chin; CONCORDIA upward behind / Shrine of Venus Cloacina: Circular platform surmounted by two statues of the goddess, each resting right hand on cippus, the platform inscribed LOACIN and ornamented with trellis-pattern balustrade, flight of steps and portico on left; L • MVSSIDIVS • LONGVS around above. Crawford 494/42c var. (inscription on platform); CRI 188b var. (same); Sydenham 1093b var. (same); Mussidia 6a var. (same); BMCRR Rome 4246-7 var. (same); Kestner 3756-7 var. (same); RBW 1746 var. (same). Lovely iridescent toning. Good VF. Rare variety.

Interesting die engraver's error, where the C was left off of CLOACIN on the reverse. There may be vestiges of a C to the lower left of the L in an attempt to rectify the mistake, but other examples from this die would have to be found to confirm this possibility.
