MYSIA, Kyzikos. Circa 550-450 BC. EL Stater (17mm, 16.06 g). Griffin seated left, raising right forepaw, on tunny left / Quadripartite incuse square. Von Fritze I 101; Greenwell 144; Boston MFA 1437 = Warren 1573; SNG BN –; BMC –; Gulbenkian –; Jameson –; Rosen 479. Lightly toned, minor edge splits, banker's mark on obverse. Near VF. Very rare issue, not to be confused with the more common variety with a griffin standing (von Fritze 99).
