William IV (1830-37), Gold Sovereign, 1832. Second bare head right, nose points to second I in legend with flat top ear, W.W. incuse on truncation, GULIELMUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D: toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, ANNO 1832 below, weight 8.02g (Bentley 28; Marsh 17; S.3829B). A pleasing example, toned good extremely fine, has been graded and slabbed by NGC as MS62. Estimated Value $3,500
NGC Certification 5880615-007. We note that a total of 196 examples of the 1832 Sovereign have been graded across both services of which only 22 pieces are finer. The calendar year mintage of Sovereigns for 1832 totals 3,737,065. The Latin legends translate on obverse as "William IV by the Grace of God, King of the Britains, Defender of the Faith," and on the reverse "In the year 1832."
