Provenance: R.E. Ockenden Collection; SNC August 1966 (4276).

Elizabeth Claypole (1629-58) was the second and favourite daughter of Oliver Cromwell. She married John Claypole in January 1646 and they had four children, the youngest of whom died an infant. Elizabeth herself became very ill and her premature death undoubtedly hastened that of her father, who succumbed less than a month later
