Edward VII (1901-10), Olympic Games, 1908, uniface AE Medal, over-sized artist's model of the reverse, by B. Mackennal for Vaughton, St. George slaying the dragon, Victory (or Fame) holding reins, 63 mm, 135.84 g (cf. Eimer 1905 (33 mm)), lightly rubbed on the highest points, uncirculated, blank reverse with glue residue, very rare, possibly unique.
The medal differs from the produced version not only in size (this specimen being almost of twice the diameter) but also in that the dragon's left front claw is missing as well as many discrepansies in the smaller details.
Estimate: £300 - £600
