ATTICA. Athens. 150/49 B.C. AR tetradrachm. 16.76 gm. 27 mm. New Style coinage. Ammonios, Kallias, and Epiphanes magistrates. Helmeted head of Athena right / Owl standing right on amphora, head facing; two torches to right; A - ΘE above, ΑΜΜ / ΩΝΙ / ΟΣ | ΚΑΛ / ΛΙΑΣ | ΕΠΙ / ΦΑΝΗΣ (magistrates names) in fields; M on amphora, [Π]E below; all within wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 593c. Very Fine; lightly toned; good style; scattered porosity and some darker areas on obverse.
From an American collection formed in the 1950's with coins purchased from major London houses at the time.
