PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, as Satrap, 323-305/4 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.24 gms), Arados Mint, ca. 320/19-315 B.C. NGC AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5.
Pr-3426 (Byblos). Struck in the name and types of Alexander III (the Great) of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding scepter and eagle; monogram in left field. A very well centered and elegant specimen, this example offers a particularly bold obverse strike along with some charming cabinet toning. Rather surprising that it lacks a star from NGC, the matter is entirely moot as the resounding eye appeal is wholly apparent.
Estimate: $800.00- $1200.00
