GREAT BRITAIN. Angel, ND (1483-84). London Mint; im: Boar's Head (2). Richard III. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, Unc Details Gold Shield.
S-2151; Fr-145; N-1676. Type 2b. Weight: 5.10 gms. Obverse: Archangel Michael slaying dragon to right; Reverse: Ship bearing coat-of-arms and cross; R to left, rose to right. A rather RARE type, this extraordinary specimen does exhibit an unfortunate scratch upon the obverse--across the tail of the dragon--accounting for the details designation. Nevertheless, it does not feature any real evidence of handling, and stands as a great example from the brief reign of Richard III whose death at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 (at the hands of future king, Henry Tudor [Henry VII]) marks the tradition close of the middle ages in the British Isles.
Estimate: $8000.00- $12000.00
