RUSSIA. Visit of Grand Duchess Catherine Pavlovna to England Gold Medal, 1814. Alexander I. NGC MS-62.
28.30 gms. Dia-383.1 (R3). By T. Wyon. Obverse: ALEXANDER RUSSIARUM IMPERTOR, laureate head right; Reverse: OB ADVENT M D CATHARINAE HOSP GRATISSMAE, Britannia seated left on globe, holding branch and trident; draped Union shield to right; GAUDENS BRITANNIA / MDCCCXIV in two lines in exergue. A VERY RARE medal, this example one of just four or five specimens to cross the auction block over the past few decades, further attesting to its rarity and assured desirability. Some scattered marks and hairlines are noted, but are fairly consistent with the grading designation. A good deal of shimmering, radiant luster is also beaming throughout the fields.
