PERU. 8 Escudos, 1826-LM JM. Lima Mint. NGC MS-61.
KM-148.1; Onza-2088. Showcasing undiminished luster throughout, this piece displays bold central details, with some typical production crudeness, which includes instances of strike doubling and softness around the legends as well as a few planchet adjustments and laminations. Despite its as-made imperfections, it is far better than nearly all survivors of this significantly underrated type, with a total of nine examples certified between NGC and PCGS for all dates! Of those, this coin is the single finest and only one certified Mint State.
