First struck in 1930, this type was designed to mirror the then-circulating United States 20 Dollar gold coins, with a weight of 33.44 grams and a total gold content of .9675 ounces. After 1931 however, the design was abandoned and Peru ceased gold coin production until it resumed in 1950. Obviously popular among locals, it was resurrected in 1967 and saw an additional three years of production. While the dates on all issues are quite prominently displayed, it is interesting to note that the word "REPRODUCCION" (for reasons unknown) was added beneath the Incan pictorgram on the reverse for all the later dates in the series.
From the Oro del Nuevo Mundo Collection.
Estimate: $1500.00- $2000.00
