PERU. 2 Escudos, 1753-LM J. Lima Mint. Ferdinand VI. NGC AU-50.
KM-48. Three-year type. A VERY RARE type of less than 10 known, with a cumulative certified population of four coins, the highest graded of those being an AU-53. From the 1753 date, this is the only example certified, with a search of archived auction results yielding no other appearances at auction over a span of two decades. Aside from its obvious rarity, the quality of this coin is superb. While the surfaces reflect brief circulation, the strike is sharp and even with no marks of any consequence over the surfaces. On each side, vibrant blushes of antiqued copper-orange tone outline the designs, with preserved flash within the outer legends serving to further amplify the intensity. Altogether, likely the most lovely example of the type extant, making it the ideal candidate for either the type collector or focused specialist of Spanish Colonial Peru.

From the Matthew Orsini Collection.

Estimate: $3000.00- $6000.00
