PERU. Tarma. Silver Medallic Proclamation 4 Reales, 1808. Ferdinand VII. NGC MS-62.
Medina-391; Herrera-95. Obverse: Laureate bust of Ferdinand VII right; Reverse: URRUTIA/NOVIEMBRE 18./DE 1808. in three lines at center with rampant lion above and flower below; PUBLICÆ FIDELITATIS JURAMENTUM TARMÆ at legend. A well-struck example of this SCARCE 4 Reales-sized medal (weighing approximately 13.5 grams) that displays strong flash beneath the delicately toned surfaces, which appear mostly gray in the centers with some gold and blue at the far edges. Among the finest seen.

First settled in prehistoric times (pre-Inca), Tarma is located in central Peru, approximately 150 miles north and east of Lima, situated in the valleys surrounding the Andes Mountains. Upon the arrival of Spanish settlers, the town became occupied in the latter half of the 16th century. Today, several churches still survive from the city's Spanish-colonial period.

From the Matthew Orsini Collection.

Estimate: $300.00- $600.00
