MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1714-Mo J. Mexico City Mint, Assayer J (Jose E. de Leon). Philip V. NGC AU-55.
Fr-6; KM-57.2; Cal-Type 296 # 2213; Cayon-9945; Grove-877; Oro Macuquino-394; Onza-393. Date on obverse variety. Crowned arms of Spain, consisting of Castile and Leon, Catalonia - Aragon, Sicily, Austria, Burgundy, Brabant, Flanders and Tyrol; denomination "VII" right, mintmark and assayers letter "MoJ" left; legend around; Reverse: Bar-tipped cross with fleurs-de-lis in quarters within quadrilobe all within bead border, legend around. A nicely preserved and attractive survivor struck on a broad flan exhibiting bold central details, a full four-digit date, mintmark/assayer letters, denomination, nearly complete King's name and partial ordinal. Though not an uncirculated example of this highly sought after and desirable type and date this fantastic representative offers much more in overall quality than normally encountered; the visual presence of all of the identifying characteristics adds an extra layer of collector complexity and sophistication that many cob enthusiasts actively pursue. This lovely survivor offers good eye appeal with smooth satiny surfaces and pale golden color adding to its alure and pleasing appearance. The opportunity to acquire a gold cob of this magnitude does not present itself very often and as such should be considered VERY RARE and highly coveted sure to catch the attention of even the most advance of collectors.

From the Las Colina Collection.

Ex: 1715 Plate Fleet.

Estimate: $10000.00- $15000.00
